Electron Capture Detectors
Information
Prospective Electron Capture Detector (ECD) category users are required to:
- Obtain a safety orientation from the designated member of your source Approval (usually Approval Holder or Approval Radiation Safety Coordinator) who has attended the Radioactive Source Protection Course and document the orientation on the RC-118 "Electron Capture Detector Orientation" form
- Your Approval Holder or Radiation Safety Coordinator must contact the RCO to arrange your enrollment into the Radioactive Source Protection Course if you are chosen to provide and document electron capture detector orientations for other new ECD users.
- RC -118 “Electron Capture Detector Orientation” forms are filed for inspection by the Approval Holder or designee
- Your Approval Holder or Radiation Safety Coordinator must contact the RCO to arrange Transport training if they require you to transport the ECD
- Training is required every three years for those transporting radioactive materials
- Individuals working with electron capture detectors are required to have lab specific training. This training is done by a member of the lab designated to perform the training. During the training the following will be discussed:
- Prior to use, obtain a safety orientation from the designated member of the lab who has completed the Sealed Source Protection Course.
- Document orientation on the "Electron Capture Detector Orientation" (RC-118) form.
- File RC-118 for RCO inspection.
- Attend and complete the Sealed Source Protection Course if providing safety orientations to new users or there is no designated member who can provide you with an orientation.
