RCO Lab Instrument Capabilities

Gamma Ray Instruments

The RCO uses two gamma spectrometers. One is a sodium iodide (NaI) gamma scintillator with photomultiplier tube and the other a high purity germanium gamma ray detector.

The NaI scintillator is used for lower resolution gamma emitting radionuclide detection in sample matrices ranging from collected soils, water or continuous air monitor (CAM) filters.

The germanium detector is the gamma workhorse and provides the capability to not only identify gamma emitting nuclides in high resolution, but also accurately measure the activities of those nuclides within a sample.

Contact the RCO at 626-6850 for questions regarding Gamma Ray instruments.
